Balkenbrij is a traditional Dutch dish popular particularly in autumn and winter, originally in the eastern and southern regions of the Netherlands. Traditionally it is the made with bouillon (and sometimes blood), cooked offal of the pig, buckwheat or wheat flour and this special spice mix. It is cooked in a frying pan and cut to pieces of approximately 1 cm thick.
